Sony is expanding your partnership With AMD to develop artificial intelligence (AI) technologies that improve graphics and gameplay in games, not only on PlayStation, but also on other devices.

The collaboration, announced by PS5 chief architect Mark Cerny, aims to create a “deeper collaboration” in machine learning technologies, focusing on graphics and enhanced gameplay.

The partnership already exists in the PS5 and PS5 Pro GPUS, which use AMD’s RDNA 2 architecture. The PS5 Pro, for example, has the PlayStation Spectral Super Resolution (PSSR) feature, which improves image clarity and frame rates.

  • Cerny also revealed details of the “Amethyst” project, a long -term collaboration between companies, whose goal is to optimize machine learning architecture, especially in the use of lightweight neural networks (CNNs) for game charts.
  • Another focus is to create a high quality CNNS set for graphics.
  • Networks can improve the visual quality of games and expand the use of technologies such as Ray Tracing and Path Tracing.

Developed technology will not be unique to PlayStation and can be applied to PCs, consoles and cloud devices. However, the implementation of Amethyst project results can take years, with possible innovations only appearing in future hardware, such as PlayStation 6, from 2028.
