Russian console can take 10 years to be developed

In addition to the console, Putin would also have asked the government’s office to analyze the possibility of creating a operating system and a cloud system for the development of games and programs to Russian users. Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov explained that the goal is to leverage the country’s game industry.

The deadline for execution of the order is June 15, 2024. Russian Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin was chosen as the project responsible, while the technology company VK would execute the plan, according to the magazine PC Magazine.

However, some analysts claim that Russians do not have the means necessary to produce their own consoles. Creating the entire system from scratch could take up to ten years. One option would be Moscow to focus on the development of a portable device in partnership with China.

War effects

  • The idea of producing the video game consoles themselves did not arise from chance.
  • Russia has been the target of several sanctions since the beginning of the war against Ukraine in 2022.
  • One of the effects of this was the departure of several companies from the Russian territory.
  • These include the leading video game manufacturers, including Sony and Nintendo, who interrupted sales in the country.
  • Russian suppliers are still looking for ways to import foreign video game consoles.
  • And it is in this vacuum created by the conflict that Putin expects to develop a domestic industry.
