As it did in the last generation, Sony announced the PlayStation 5 Pro, the most advanced model of the current generation and, consequently, the most powerful of the Japanese (until the launch of the future PS6).
Many people, however, did not like the price of the console: $ 699.99, about $ 3,968.24 in direct conversion, without taxes. In Brazil, it would be cheaper than the original PS5, released in November 2020 for R $ 4,999. But the US haven’t liked the value and are complaining about social networks, because the PS5 Pro is the most expensive model of PlayStation of all time.
The PS3, launched in 2006, came out at the same price outside, adjusted by inflation, remembers the The Verge. But there is a vital difference: the PS5 Pro has no disk reader, which has also been criticized.
Remember that consoles have always competed with PCs, given the ease of exchanging parts of a computer. However, the value of a console can be the same as a single piece (or even cheaper).
Not to mention the plug-and-play system, simpler user interface than a Windows and less bureaucratic warranty ends up weighing when you decide to have a PC or a video game. That’s why they sell to millions, the portal remembers.

- The new generation of consoles, led by Sony and Microsoft, has exceeded the CPUs of PCs, improving the performance of the existing game library, just as updating the PC GPU Faz;
- In the case of the PS, this is even clearer, as new and existing games will benefit from improved frame rates, but maintaining visual quality;
- But that’s when the question comes: Will Sony’s Faithful Players go to upgrade their consoles the same way as a PC fan?
The difference (at least out there) is that this time prices have inflated and equate with the most powerful GPUs a common gamer can pay to have a great gambling.
Both Sony and Microsoft often sell their consoles at an initially detriment to subsidizing the hardware and increasing the state -of -the -art market. Initial hardware losses are usually covered with digital game recipes and gaming purchases.
As we mentioned before, the PS5 Pro is all based on digital sales, as it does not come with a disc unit. You can even buy a separately for $ 79.99 ($ 453.46), but Sony will benefit from the digital sales impetus and a 30% cut it gets in most purchases.

Future without records?
Microsoft and Sony want to eliminate the discs on their consoles, seemingly likely that next generation systems (such as PS6) are not sent with default disk units. We just don’t know if it will be possible to get a separate compatible.
It is also likely that the next generation will be more expensive than usual. After all, component costs are not decreasing and the console market is not growing.
In addition, Xbox chief Phil Spencer admitted earlier this year that subsidizing hardware is now challenging because the price of components is not falling fast enough.
In Brazil, the current generation was launched at higher prices, in fact. While Xbox Series X started for $ 4,599, the PS5 cost $ 4,999. And detail: Both offer versions with and without disk reader.
Last year, a Microsoft document revealed that the company planned to subsidize Xbox Series X and S at $ 1.5 billion in 2021 to reach its $ 499 (R $ 2,828.83) and US $ 299 (R $ 1,695.03), respectively.

“This is our greatest hardware subsidy of all time” in Microsoft’s profit and damage to its games division, the document indicated. With Xbox Series X/S sales following the PS5, it’s hard to imagine Microsoft betting again on highly subsidized Xbox hardware for your next -generation consoles.
Sony, in turn, appears to be so as not to support the PlayStation heavily. The lack of disk unit helps reduce console costs on PS5 Slim and Pro models. The price of the PS5 Pro also seems to have been designed to make the Japanese profits in the short term.
The company took almost a year so as not to sell the $ 499 PS5 anymore ($ 2,828.83) with loss. The company then increased PS5 prices outside the US a year later to cover inflation and component costs.
By 2022, console prices rose 10% in Europe, 12.5% in Japan and about 6% in the UK. Sony has also increased PS5 values in Japan three times since its release almost four years ago.
On the other hand, Sony never increased the US console price, the only market where Xbox competition in sales. Microsoft admitted last year that it has a market share of 20% in Europe from 80% of Sony. When there is no competition in Europe, Sony can adjust prices by 10%, or sell the PS5 Pro for € 799.99 (R $ 5,006.02).
The price is even higher in the UK, in the case of the most potent release version. The PS5 was originally launched at £ 449 in the UK and $ 499 in the US (and never forget: at R $ 4,999 in Brazil) – Cambial difference given the weaker value of the sterling pound in the last decade.
After the price increase to £ 479 (R $ 3,529.85) by 2022, the United Kingdom suffers from £ 699 (R $ 5,151.07) for the PS5 Pro compared to the release price of $ 699 (R $ 3,968.24) in the US (in Brazil, the console has no defined price yet).
If you want to buy a PS5 Pro and the separate disc drive in the UK, this is equivalent to $ 1,045 ($ 5,924.10). In the US, it costs $ 818 ($ 4,637.24) with sales tax in many states for the same console and disk drive.
This is because Sony faces little competition in Europe and the United Kingdom with Xbox, and Microsoft’s plans to redesign Xbox Series X stagnated.
It seems that Big Tech is setting aside the increase in half -generating fully digital white version of Xbox Series X and limited edition model of 2 TB. None of them offer the most powerful PS5 Pro GPU and allows Sony to define the price of the new video game around the world.
