PlayStation key executive leaves Sony after three decades

From January 15, 2025, Shuhei Yoshida, an important name of PlayStation, will leave Sony, but will remain involved with the video game industry.

The announcement was made by yoshida during the PlayStation Podcast, on Tuesday (26), with summary transcription available on PlayStation Official Blog. He did not specify the reason for his departure.

Yoshida is widely recognized for her role as head of initiative to promote independent games at Sony Interactive, a position she took over in 2019. In this role, he was responsible for joining games independent to PlayStation consoles, establishing partnerships with Indie developers and promoting their projects.

  • The executive was part of the original team that worked in the development of the first PlayStation, being involved with the consoles from the beginning;
  • In 2013, he gave an interview about Sony’s commitment to Indie developers;
  • Although Yoshida is satisfied with the continuous success of PlayStation and confident in the brand’s future, he believes it is the right time to follow new ways, according to the farewell announcement;
  • He reported that his love for the console series remains and that remains optimistic about his future.

Yoshida is also remembered for her rapid reaction in 2013 to Microsoft’s plan to restrict the sharing of physical games on Xbox One and her reaction to testing an initial version of “God of War” (2018), which became a famous episode.

The announcement of the yoshida departure occurs shortly before the 30th anniversary of PlayStation on December 3.
