While video game fans speculate when and how next generation consoles will be, Microsoft works in silence with an eye on a new audience. The company plans, of course, to launch a competitor for the PlayStation 6 and Switch 2 (if they will be called anyway). But Big Tech would also be thinking of a laptop – which would debut even before the next Xbox.
There are some rumors in this regard – and things warmed even more after an interview that Microsoft Gaming CEO Phil Spencer gave to Gringo Polygon. He has confirmed nothing, but gave evidence very strong that this will be the future of the brand.

Spencer cited several existing PC game portable devices, including Asus Rog Ally, Lenovo Legion Go and Steam Deck. He praised everyone, but said he wanted to make them more Xbox, in the sense of having the entire console library in the palm of his hand, as well as the saves of the games.
“I want to be able to boot the Xbox app in full screen, but in compact mode. And all my social (experience) is there. As if I wanted to look like my Xbox’s panel when I turn on the television. (Except I want) in these devices ”said the boss of Microsoft.

Hardware or software?
- In the same interview, Phil Spencer cited the terms hardware and software.
- Hardware, roughly, would be the physical part of the electronic device.
- The software is the system, the part that performs operations.
- From what I could understand the speech of Microsoft Gaming’s boss, the company would not have hit the hammer (or he didn’t want to speak) whether the ampsota will be in a Xbox physical laptop or a kind of application that would run on other devices.
- This second hypothesis would be something more focused on younger generations:
“This idea that Xbox can only be this device that connects to television is not something we see in generation Z research. Because nothing is like that for them. Some will have an iPhone, some will have an Android, but all games and everything is the same. I can still access Tiktok in both. All contents are available wherever they want ”said Spencer.
- It is noteworthy that all these questions should end in June this year, when the new Xbox Showcase will take place.
- According to executive Sarah Bond, the event will bring “some interesting things”.
A new era of Xbox without exclusive?
Returning to Phil Spencer’s interview, he again defended Microsoft’s decision to release some exclusive games for PlayStation and Nintendo competitors.
The CEO explained that the industry in the industry was extremely expensive – “Mathematics has changed” in his words. Spencer said that many studios work on hand brakes pulled for fear of releasing different and creative games because these games are already obliged to sell thousands of copies (to pay themselves).
Esclusivity further limits the market, making it difficult for products to reach the minimum sales numbers. According to Spencer, its goal is not to grow “at the expense of industry”, but “with the industry”.
“I will say that every decision we make today and tomorrow is for the benefit of Xbox. I know that sometimes things are politicized, that there is some harm behind the scenes making us make decisions – ‘Phil hates exclusives and that is why we are now like PlayStation and switch.’ But every decision we make is to make Xbox stronger in the long run ”concluded.
Remembering that Microsoft has so far released 4 exclusive: Hi-Fi Rush, Pentiment, Sea of Thieves and Grounded. New titles should enter this list soon.
